Love is kind… Paul is speaking of a kindness that is important. a kindness that is bigger than polite courtesy, deeper than surface thoughtfulness. it is a self-sacrificing kindness, a kindness that is worthy of being an explanation of “how to love as Christ did.” the Greekword is chresteuomai and this is the only time it is used in the whole New Testament and it means to “make yourself mild” showing that it is a decision. maybe the people in Corinth weren’t being nice :) Seriously, though… this is a kindness that is a choice, not a personality type. everyone of us can be kind, no matter what our personality is. you and I need to CHOOSE to be kind. can you give any examples of this sort of kindness from your own experience? maybe someone who was nice to you when you didn’t deserve it?
