Day 2 - Hola Amigos
Mexico 2006 March 25th, 2006 by Rudy“This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Day 2 of Mexico Mission ’06 is just about in the books, and we’re praising the Lord for His goodness. We have had mostly smooth driving. We did get off to a bumpy start as one of the vans busted a tire only a few miles from last night’s hotel stay. Everyone is just fine, but they had to play catch up until lunch time.
On the buses, the kids got to enjoy a different seating arrangement than usual. Freshmen missionaries got to play musical chairs as they spent time getting to know each leader on one bus. Juniors and seniors had the chance to mingle with fellow upperclassmen, and sophomores made up the third bus. Our morning devotion focused on Philippians 4:8-9. We studied how our actions start with our thoughts, and how important it is for us to maintain God-honoring thoughts as we prepare for life with our Mexican friends.
Most of us ate at the famous In-N-Out Burger for lunch. Clearly, we are trying to watch our carbs and fats before we start working in Mexico. An encouraging note was that in addition to great burgers, fries, and shakes, In-N-Out cares about sharing the truth of the Bible. Verse references such as Proverbs 3:5, John 3:16, and Revelation 3:20 could be found on the bottom of cups.
We passed by an awesome windmill field. Hundreds if not thousands of windmills were waving their 15 ft. arms at us as we drove by. It was quite an amazing sight, multiplied by the towering snow-covered mountains in the backdrop. We’ve seen it all in terms of weather: rain, clouds, sun, snow (in the distance), cool mornings, and hot afternoons (Temperatures peaked at about 81 degrees).
The work crew that went ahead of us passed through the border just a few days ago. Denied initially, they turned back to meet up with some brothers from Mexico for prayer. Second time’s a charm, though. With over $5000 worth of construction supplies, they paid a ‘tax’ of only $300 to get themselves across. God is good.
Keep us in your prayers. Our bus drivers need endurance, our missionaries need to stay healthy, and our transportation needs to stay safe. Pray that our bro’s and sis’s in Mexico will be preparing their hearts and minds (and houses) as we bring our message and our efforts down there. Pray also that our missionaries we’ll be recalling our Bible lessons, and exercising the fruits of the spirit in all our interactions. Thanks again for all your support. God bless you.
