Day 3 - Only hours away

Mexico 2006 March 26th, 2006 by Rudy

Hola Amigos,

It is 8:30 in the morning. The sun is up. It must be about 65 degrees. The team is beginning to awaken and head for the continental breakfast. That is, accept for the team of forty that met at 7:00 am for a grocery run to El Centro. As many of you know, we buy a bunch of food to help our host families keep the cost down on their tight budgets.

It is quite a sight to watch as the students fan out with their shopping carts to grab 120 boxes of cereal, 90 loaves of bread, 50 jars of peanut butter, etc. I hope to have some pictures for you by tomorrow.

We will be meeting around the motel pool at 10:00 am for a time of prayer, music worship, and scripture reading. The emphasis will be on thanksgiving for all the Lord has done in preparing us for this trip and a look back at the verses we have memorized and the scripture we have studied the past 8 weeks to ready our hearts for this mission. I am hoping that I will continue to see this team of leaders and students come together in the bonds of Christlike love and unity throughout this adventure.
At 11:30 am. we will head down the street to the Hometown Buffet for our last American meal. Afterwards, we will walk across the street to Walmart for any last minute shopping for our host families and personal items.

If all goes as planned, we will cross the border sometime between 1:30 – 2:00pm. Please be in prayer about this. I don’t want to take anything for granted. The past few years have been a breeze but I don’t want to assume the same will be true for this year. We attract quite a lot of attention with our large group.

Thanks for taking the time to stay in contact with our team. We cherish your prayers and thoughts as we represent our Lord Jesus Christ and our families and church back home. We hope to do you proud.

Gracias por todo,

Mexico Team

    Dear Mexico Team:

We already miss all the energy of those missionaries here at home. We prayed for you throughout the day and hope the “crossover” was uneventful. I miss my boy, but know that he is in wonderful hands, not only the hands of God, but the hands of the trusted leaders of the mission.
If you see Hayden Houser tell him I love him and miss him.
I check the website a few times per day and look forward to your messages.

    In Christ’s Love, Cris H.

Thank you so much…all our FBC missions team for representing us in Mexico. God is good and we know you are all in His care.

Tessy, your path to Mexico to work in missions was set long before we moved to Oregon. You are, truly, an awesome daughter and we are so proud of you for your loving, giving spirit.

This is a life changing opportunity and as I pray for the kids and leaders on this trip, I can’t help but think about how God uses yucky stuff to allow us to be roughed up so He can shape us into the image of the Son.

Jordann, remember, the yucky stuff is good!! We love, love, love you! Mom and Dad
