Egypt: Winding Down
Egypt 2006 August 10th, 2006 by GraceI know I haven’t been a good blogger these past few weeks. But my time here is coming to a close and I guess I’ve been focusing more on people and relationships than putting words to a computer. Another aspect is that in some ways, I just don’t know what to say. The advantage of a blog is that it gets the word out to a lot of people virtually instantaneously. The downside is, I want to be articulate in communicating, and much of what I have seen and been exposed to here is still turning around and around in my mind. I hope to have a much clearer sense of how to tell the story, as it were, on September 10th.
I have less than a week here now and am starting to think more and more about going home and being home. But I am writing not so much to talk about here or there, but to ask for thoughts and prayers upon my departure. My itinerary has me flying from Cairo to London, London to Chicago, and Chicago to Portland. As you know the threat level has been raised to red or severe for all flights leaving from London to the United States. I have been checking the new restrictions and I’m not allowed to bring any liquids or gels of any kind on board. That means no contact solution, no anti-bacterial gel, no toothpaste, not even a beverage. So I am going to have to rethink my packing strategy! Anyway, there are going to be a lot of long delays and increased security measures, all to ensure safety of course, so please pray both for protection and for patience. I only hope I’ll be able to bring reading material on the plane or I’ll die from boredome as well as dehydration.
